The brief
A quiet, sound-insulated room in the garden for making music. The clients then asked us back to fit as much book storage into the house as possible.
What we built
We built the garden room and fitted it out as a music studio, with acoustic insulation and plasterboard throughout and vertical sho sugi ban cladding outside, the traditional Japanese technique of charring timber to protect it. Returning to the house, we built floor-to-ceiling book storage framing a new opening and a bespoke bay window seat with a liftable lid for storage.
